The Golden Beast - A Tribute From Colombia To Iron Maiden (2008)
The first time Iron Maiden went to play in Colombia (Feb. 28th, 2008), 8 bands were chosen to make a tribute CD released by EMI Colombia. All the bands did a great job with the Iron Maiden's classics; some of them putting into it a more personal approach giving to the songs a fresh sound. Maybe the song I like the most in here is "Infinite Dreams" by Entropia. There is even a very well achieved version of "Flight of Icarus" sung in Spanish by Akash.
This CD is well worth having not only for the great music, but also for the artwork you are going to find in there. A contest was made in order to pick the best image for the cover of the tribute. Some of the best works are included in the booklet of the CD and of course, the winner of the contest Felipe Machado got the cover with his work "The Golden Beast".
I took some of this works to use for the presentation of this blog. They are great representations of COLOMBIAN METAL!!
1. Sigma - Wasted Years
2. Entropia - Infinite Dreams
3. Legend Maker - The Evil That Men Do
4. Perpetual - The Wicker Man
5. Noizart - Aces High
6. Introspeccion - Be Quick Or Be Dead
7. Terra Sur - Can I Play With Madness
8. Akash - Flight Of Icarus

Nightmare - High Speed Venom (2004)
NIGHTMARE is a band from the city of Medellín founded about the middle of the year 2000 by Mario Uribe (Ripper) and Edison Gil (Enforcer), both guitar players, who had the intention of making Heavy Metal. After writing several songs, Orlando gets into the band as the first drum player, but for a very short period of time. In their search for musicians to complete the band and after some rehearsals, Hugo Uribe (Witchhammer) as the drum player and Camilo Slayer as the bass player are recruited. With this line up, the band releases its demotape Gates of Hades in the year 2001, which would feature five songs of their own and one cover version of a song from a belgium band called Acid.
With the idea of making a purely classic Heavy Metal band, the NIGHTMARE influences are based mostly in 70s and 80s bands such as IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, SAXON, MOTORHEAD ,TWISTED SISTER, OBSESSION, AC-DC, ACID, DIO and other bands that belonged to the British Heavy Metal stream of those years. NIGHTMARE makes its first live show in a festival set up in the Hill El Ángel of the Bello municipality. It reached so a great response from the plublic that day ,that it is engaged immediately to play a week after in the Theatre Porfirio Barba Jacob, with another local band. In the early 2002, Camilo Slayer leaves the band and Oscar Urrego (SINISTER STORM) replace him, making his debut as bass player of the band in march of the same year in the Theatre Porfirio Barba Jacob. In 2003, NIGHTMARE engages with the independent label Plasmajam Productions and start to record its first CD called High Speed Venom, which is released in august 2004.
(I would like to mention also that the founders of this band are also members of WITCHTRAP [Thrash Metal])
Tracklist:
1. Rising Evil
2. When Hell Is Out Of Control
3. High Speed Venom
4. Inner Conflict
5. The King Is Gone
6. Heavy Metal Outbreak
7. Mistress Of The Dark
8. Kingdom Of Fire
9. Obsessed

Neurosis Inc - Karma (1996)
"To talk about Neurosis is to talk about 22 years of struggle to bring honest and aggressive metal to the scene. The band was formed in 1987 in Bogotá (COLOMBIA) by guitarist and songwriter Jorge Mackenzie and after years of hard work it is now one of the most legendary metal bands in the South American scene. For those of you not familiar with the band it is one of the oldest metal bands from Colombia, having toured South America (Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Venezuela and Chile) and played the biggest festivals in Colombia gaining a reputation through the years. Neurosis has shared stage with Apocalyptica, Monstruosity and Krisiun - in 2007 they were given the "Subterranica" Award in Colombia as the best metal band in the country - in 1996 the video "Verdun 1916" was air-played in "Headbanger´s Ball" on MTV Latino and MTV USA being the first Colombian metal band to be air-played and one of the fist South American bands to do so. Neurosis has been a major influence to many other bands in Colombia, in 2008 a Tribute to Neurosis was released featuring 10 different bands. So far the band has released 8 albums and continues working hard, this year a new album entitled "Live Thrash Attack" will be released being this one the second live album from the band and ninth in its career. Neurosis is endorsed by Moser Custom Shop Guitars (USA), Power Click Ear-in Monitors (Brazil) and is now managed by Storm Blaze Entertainment."
Neurosis is one of the most representative thrash metal bands from Colombia. They started in 1987 and have released 8 CD's. They also have toured South America and Colombia in different occasions.

'Nación Rock'
This documentary shows the history of rock music in Colombia from the 60's to the year '95. I wanted to post something like this before, but the only material I found only had the first part without mentioning much about hard rock and metal. This material, on the other hand, is more complete, and I think it is a good introduction to begin to know about our roots in the rock culture. Enjoy it!
I'm very grateful to the people who made this documentary possible, who are mentioned in the description that follows. I especially thank Feloarias for sharing this on Youtube.

Under Threat - Deathmosphere (2006)
UNDER THREAT is a melodic death metal band hailing from Colombia South America. The band was formed in 1997 by John Perez (vocals), Nicolas Bermudez,(guitars) and David Bermudez (bass), under the name of "Skulptor". In the middle of 1999, and after several conceptual changes, the name SKULPTOR was changed to UNDER THREAT and Alejandro Rojas joined for drum duties. The band entered studio to record their first release on CD format.
The album HIPOSTASIS was released at the end of '99 on Transilvania Music, an independent Colombian record label. UNDER THREAT wrote their lyrics in Spanish, however, before the release of "Hipostasis", they changed the lyrics into English, attempting to reach a wider international audience. This first release was extremely well received in the Colombian and South American metal scene. Upon the release of Hipostasis, UNDER THREAT played numerous shows around Colombia gaining a great following from the people there. On December 2001 Under Threat members entered Studio One in Racine, WI and recorded "Behind Mankind's Disguise", their first album under an American label (Conquest Music), it was then mastered at Mastermind in Milwaukee, WI. The album was released in march 2003.
The band has participated in several compilations along side the likes of Satyricon, Angel Corpse, Impaled Nazarene Exhumed and Jag Panzer and have played shows with bands such as Destruction, Divine Empire, Fleshgrind, Anal Blast, Kataklysm, Suffocation, Strapping Young Lad among others. During 2002 Under Threat toured with Monstrosity, Dark Faith and Blood Stained Dusk and played at the 2002 Milwaukee Metal Fest and then on 2003, the band also participated in Las Vegas Metal Fest.
During summer 2004 the band entered Studio One again in Racine to record their 3rd album entitled "Deathmosphere", 10 new songs , including a total acoustic instrumental track . On October of the same year UNDER THREAT performed their gigantic hometown's annual festival "Rock al Parque" from which a video track was recorded to be included as an enhanced element for the new album. On january 2006, Barbarian records from Madison WI released this new chapter in the U.S, and Hateworks Records from Colombia did for South America and Europe on August of the same year.

Here we have a documentary about part of the history of metal music in Colombia, especifically from Medellin. During the 80's some local bands began to create a more extreme metal compared to the traditional heavy metal that had been around the city for some time already. Among those bands we have Parabellum and Reencarnacion.
